Senior Composites Structural Engineer

Function

In this position, you will be supporting the engineering of large naval composite structures from basic engineering up to production start. This way, you will be involved in the design and validation of large composite structures, including relevant structural and FEM calculations. Moreover, you will review technical documentation provided by the suppliers.

Specific duties in this role include:

  • Performing calculations such as: FEM, strength, stiffness, vibrations, buckling, fatigue,
  • Apply basic and detailed engineering of outsourced engineering packages, design checks and design reviews.
  • Give support to the structural engineering department for construction plans.
  • Having contact with clients about technical specifications.
  • Responsible for integration of delivered components and systems into ship design in close cooperation with internal departments, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and customer.
  • Working together with composite manufacturers to create construction strategies for large-scale composite structures.
  • Offering production support for large composite structures by establishing FMEA, reviewing production documentation, addressing manufacturer inquiries, and performing production inspections.

Requirements

  • Having a Master degree in Naval Architecture, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in structural composite engineering.
  • Strong expertise in structural FEM analysis, ideally with experience using Ansys for modelling, along with other analysis tools like NX or FEMAP, and CAD systems such as NUPAS (3D), 3DX, or Catia.
  • Experience with classification societies rules and familiar with composite production processes.
  • Knowledge of Fibre Reinforced Polymers.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
