Electrical Engineer Shipbuilding

Function
As Electrical Engineer you will work in a small multidisciplinary team, working on challenging sustainable shipping solutions. You will be responsible for the electrical part of the design.
Specific duties in this role include:
- Designing and calculating electrical designs for AC and DC distribution system, Alarm and Safety systems, automation, power management system and other systems onboard ships;
- Basic and detail engineering.
- Performing various calculations such as short circuit, capacity and redundancy response calculations;
- Determining purchase specifications;
- Designing with a focus on the use of material, size/weight and service accessibility;
- Familiarize yourself with the regulations of various classification societies;
- Support project management, production, and operation departments;
- Make proposals for technical improvements.
- Working together with, and challenging external electrical specialist companies/suppliers
Requirements
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with at least 3 years of experience in a similar job position. Furthermore, you meet the following requirements:
- BSc Electrical Engineering with at least 3 years’ experience in designing electrical systems for ships.
- Knowledge of electrical design software (ETAP, MATLAB, Etc)
- Affinity with LNG, CNG Installations onboard ships is nice to have.
- English in word and writing, Dutch would be an advantage.
- We prefer candidates living in the Netherlands but we consider EU citizens as well if you have the willingness to relocate to the Netherlands for the long term.

In 2022, FPS will retrofit its first inland vessel, FPS Maas, to sail on hydrogen fuel cells to transport container cargo between The Netherlands and Belgium. Although fuel cells and hydrogen have already been tested in the marine industry, FPS expects this to be the first to demonstrate such a system for main propulsion at this scale, and in commercial operations.
